Wooden Blinds

The first known Printed advert for wooden Blinds was in the “Pennsylvania Journal and Weekly advertiser” on August the 20th 1767.

“…The newest invented venetian Sun blinds for windows, on the best principles, stain’d to any colour, moves to any position so as to give different light, screens from the scoring rays of the sun, draws a cool air in hot weather, draws up like curtains, and prevents being overlooked…”

Wooden blinds are generally known as Venetian blinds. A number of horizontal wooden slats are joined together by corded pulleys which can either gather all the slats at the top of the window to reveal the view or simply angle the slats while allowing some light to travel through the blind yet retaining some level of privacy. Wooden blinds come in a number of finishes:

  • Genuine Wood – Usually made of naturally colourful woods like cherry, oak, or maple with no finish or stain. These wood blinds are generally more expensive due to the quality of wood used.
  • Stained Finish – Most wood blinds are actually stained wood made to resemble expensive wood like oak or cherry.
  • Painted Finish – This option combines the look and feel of traditional wood blinds with colour. Most manufacturers offer a wide range of colour choices, offering everything from white to reds ect.

Plaswood Venetion Blinds

Plaswood blinds are a more economical choice. They are ideal for kitchen and bathrooms or areas with high moister, because of their PVC composition. They are resistant to fading, crackling and peel. Plaswood is available in 200mm to 500mm width. Available in a wide range of colours like: Birchwood, Cherry wood, American oak, Imbuia, Mahogany, Walnut, Golden oak, Cream and White.

Aluwood Blinds

The look of real wood with all the advantages of aluminium blinds, Aluwood blinds are very similar to the traditional Venetian but with a wood grain finish. The perfect blind for rooms where excess moisture or heat would present problems for real wood blinds. Aluwood blinds are available in a range of wood stain finishes and give a warm cosy finish to any window.
